Getting to Ærø is slightly tricky. There are multiple ways to go about it.
IMPORTANT: If you're carpooling with someone, the driver of the car should book the ferry. The ferry ticket is for the car and everyone in it.
Since it is an island, you need to get to a port, from where you could take a ferry.
There are three locations from where you could take a ferry (Fynhavn, Faaborg, and Svendborg). You can take your car or bike on the ferry, by the way.
IMPORTANT: We suggest booking the ferry at least two weeks before travel. They sometimes get fully booked. If you can't get a ferry, you should check 24 hours before travel to see if someone has cancelled it and there are new slots.
The following routes are possible:
1. Fynshavn > Søby (~2-3 hrs drive from Hamburg to Fynshavn, 1 hour in ferry, 17 minutes drive after ferry).
2. Faaborg > Søby (~3:30 hrs drive from Hamburg to Faaborg, 70 minutes in ferry, 17 minutes drive after ferry).
3. Svendborg > Søby (~3:3-4 hrs drive from Hamburg to Svendborg, 45 minutes in ferry, 17 minutes drive after ferry).
